Development of XML support has started in the jswiff-xml branch. If you are interested, you can view this branch online.
At the time being, only primitive XML generation is available, but I work hard on the generation feature in order to finish it by the end of the month.
XML support will be integrated into trunk after the release of v1.0.

I finished XML generation today I checked it in in the jswiff-xml branch. Feel free to test it. If you don't know where to start, take a look at com.jswiff.tests.simple.SWFToXML.
Beware, currently this is alpha quality software, and the XML schema WILL change! However, I'm positive that soon you'll be able to use this to generate some cool templates. I'll start right away with implementing XML parsing (i.e. the XML to SWF part).

The tag-level XML features are fully implemented and integrated into trunk, earlier than planned. Tag-level means that for each tag you have an XML element. This still is very low-level if you aren't comfortable with the SWF spec, but if you want to use XML templates for Flash creation, this is really powerful.
Initially, XML support was planned to be added after the 1.0 release, but being such an important feature I decided to add it as soon as possible, i.e. in 1.0rc1.
The next step in this direction will be the development of high-level XML support (i.e. elements like <circle>, <jpeg>, <mp3>, <morph> and the like).
